Title: Thousands Walk the Ancient Yellow‑Sand Ferry
News Summary
On April 18, the Xingqing District of Yinchuan City held the inaugural Desert‑Yellow River Spring Hiking Festival at the Huangsha Ancient Ferry National Wetland Park in Ningxia. More than a thousand hikers from the district and beyond took part. The event was organized by the Xingqing District Cultural, Tourism, Sports and Radio‑Television Bureau. Using the natural resources of desert, the Yellow River, wetlands and frontier landscapes, the festival aims to deepen the integration of “sports + tourism” and raise the region’s cultural‑tourism profile.
The hiking groups followed a planned trail that crossed sand, wetlands and the riverbank, practicing a “leave‑no‑trace” ethic. Participants also joined an interactive performance called “Silk Road Ballad – Meeting at the Ferry,” set up at the ancient ferry site. The show features three immersive scenes: the story of Princess Wang Zhao’s journey west, the legend of Hu Xuan of Hexi, and the tale of the Yellow River swordsman. Additional performances for visitors will be added from May 1‑3.
The organizers released a plan for a 12‑kilometre premium trail for 2026, linking key attractions such as the Bǔtiān Stone, the wetland water wheel, and the Moon‑shaped Lake ruins. The route includes several photo spots and supply stations, helping to warm up the “May 1” cultural‑tourism season.
Reflection and Insight
Walking in nature is not only physical exercise; it is a gentle way of connecting with the land and with the people around us. Events like this bring families and neighbors outdoors, letting children see a larger world and reminding us to watch over and protect the places we enjoy.
There is an ancient saying that calls humanity to responsibility for the earth and for one another—an idea that echoes the mutual help, moderation, and diligence we practice while hiking. May you walk steadily, see far, and pass this care on to the next generation.
Scripture
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.” Psalm 24:1
